The whole spectrum of Classical Studies (Ancient History, Classical Philology, Classical Archaeology) is represented at Freiburg University, complemented by a broad range of archaeological disciplines (Prehistoric, Middle Eastern, Provincial Roman, Late Ancient and Byzantine Archaeology), Jewish Studies, History of Law, Ancient Church History, and the Archaeological University Museum. Main emphases lie on the historically and culturally oriented sciences of literature and history, reception of ancient literature, social and economic history, epigraphy and studies in the visual culture and the arts in antiquity as well as on museology.
